The one and only U.S. vice presidential debate between Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican Mike Pence was held Tuesday night at Longwood University in Virginia.

A new NBC poll shows that a good amount of people don't know enough about the candidates to have an opinion.

According to the poll, 40 percent of likely voters said they did not know enough about Kaine, while 33 percent said they did not know enough about Pence.

"They picked pretty under-the-radar people," said political strategist Mike Dawidziak. "They're in a supporting role. Nobody actually votes for the vice president. Everybody votes for the top of the ticket."

Dawidziak says the vice presidential debates don't historically have an effect on how people vote in November. However, Pence - the governor of Indiana - and Kaine - a senator from Virginia - hope to deliver electoral votes in their swing states.
