A new poll reveals that most Long Island residents believe that stores should be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
The News 12/Hofstra University poll asked if most retail stores should be closed on Thanksgiving. A total of 75 percent said "yes." About 21 percent said "no." Another 4 percent were not sure.
Some retailers like GameStop and Costco are closed Thanksgiving, while others -- such as J.C. Penney, Target and Wal-Mart - are open Thanksgiving.
Jerry Castronova, of P.C. Richard and Son, says that it shows "disrespect for the holiday" to have employees working on the holiday.
"I think it is really cruel," says Castronova.
Others say they will be doing all of their shopping online and will not be affected either way.
