Long Island residents recently weighed in on the question, "How do you feel about legalizing marijuana?" in a News 12/Hofstra University poll.

Just under 30 percent of the people who answered said they approve of it without restrictions. About 45 percent approved of it, but only for medical purposes. On the other side, about 24 percent of people said they disapprove of it. One percent was undecided.

Missy Miller, a mother from Atlantic Beach, says she is pushing for lawmakers to pass a law legalizing medical marijuana to help ease her son's epileptic seizures.

State lawmakers are still debating the issue. The Assembly has passed a bill to legalize medical marijuana four times, but it has never been voted on in the Senate.

If approved by state lawmakers, New York would become the 21st state to legalize medicinal marijuana.
