Children living on Long Island are racking up hours on tech devices each day.
The results of a poll commissioned by South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside found that 65 percent of children under 18 spend more than three hours a day on electronic gadgets.
According to the survey, 25 percent of parents who said they attempted to set limits for screen time said they were successful. Half of the parents polled said they don't even try.
Dr. Warren Rosenfeld, of South Nassau Communities Hospital, says staring at two-dimensional virtual reality for too long can have a significant impact on a child's development.
"As they're developing this framework in their mind about how the world should be perceived, it just doesn't create the correct image that they're going to need to function in the real world.  In a virtual world that might work, but not in the real world," says Rosenfeld.
