Local politicians are raising concerns over a plan to build a liquefied natural gas terminal off the coast of Long Island.

The project calls for the terminal to be positioned around 18 miles off the coast between New York and New Jersey. Legislator Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) says he does not know enough about the proposal to make any sound judgment, but insists that it could pose as much of a terrorist threat as an environmental one.

"My biggest concern right now is that the public doesn't know about this," says Denenberg. "We need more information."

A public hearing will be held July 9 at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach.
