A shooting Friday night in the parking lot of Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel in Islandia left a 38-year-old Wyandanch man seriously injured.
Suffolk police say the victim was in the parking lot at around 10 p.m. when a suspect approached him and shot twice. The shooter then fled the scene.
The victim walked into the casino and 911 was called. He was hospitalized for treatment.
Casino officials told News 12 the shots were fired near the side of the front entrance. They also believe the shooting was not random but a targeted attack.
Casino officials do not believe the suspect entered the casino. They said there are strict rules against firearms inside the casino.
Staff at Jake’s 58 said patrons were never in any danger during the incident.
They added that they will review their current security protocols after Friday night's shooting.
"We're going to revamp and refresh everything we have, do new training for our workers and work more closely with the Suffolk County Police Department who, again, did a great job," said Phil Boyle, president and CEO of Suffolk Regional Off-Track Betting.
No arrests had been made as of Saturday night. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
