An employee at a Merrick pizzeria is accused of assaulting a coworker Saturday with a pizza peel.

Police say it happened at La Piazza on Merrick Road around 8 p.m.

They say John Vano, of Franklin Square, hit the victim in the head with the peel, a tool used to move pizza in and out of the oven, during an argument.

Vano is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
