Police say a West Hempstead mother was arrested for allegedly driving drunk with her two children in the car.

Officers pulled over 38-year-old Karen Hernandez shortly after 11 p.m. Friday on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale. Her 11-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter were in the vehicle.

Police say Hernandez's breath smelled of alcohol and she had glassy eyes and slurred speech. She was placed under arrest.

Hernandez faces two counts of aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law, endangering the welfare of a child and various vehicle and traffic law infractions.

Police say the children were released to family guardians.
