Police: Woman attacked in Albertson home invasion
An elderly woman in Albertson was attacked by a home invader early Saturday morning, and the suspect is still on the loose.
Joginder Chawla, 70, says the intruder broke into her home around midnight. She says the suspect opened an unlocked door to her home but then broke through a second, double-locked door.
She says the noise from that door being broken down woke her up.
"I believe he drilled the siding because my mother thought it was the sound of a rolling backpack that I have, and then she called me out and got no response," says Chawla's daughter, Nikki.
Chawla says she came face-to-face with her intruder in her bedroom doorway, a man who police describe as about 6 foot 1 and 240 pounds. They say he was wearing black clothing and a backpack.
"He pushed me," Chawla says. "I fell down on the door."
She says the intruder told her to get back into bed and then ran out of the front door.
Chawla says she was not injured in the attack and that nothing was taken from her home.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
