Police are reaching out to the public to crack the fatal stabbing of a grandmother in her Nesconset home.
Police say they received a frantic call to 911 at around 2 p.m. Saturday from Matt Watson, who stated an intruder had stabbed him. When they arrived, police found Watson with severe stab wounds and his grandmother, Martha Watson, 70, stabbed to death.
According to police, Matt Watson apparently did not know his grandmother had been attacked in another room.
Court records show Matt Watson was arrested earlier this year for heroin possession. Suffolk Detective Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick confirmed "drugs were an issue" in the Alexander Avenue home. However, there is no indication the grandson had anything to do with the incident.
Authorities also said the violence did not appear to be random. They remained at the scene Monday at a mobile command post.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
