Police say a tow truck driver was killed while trying to hook up a car in Shoreham Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on Route 25A.
Police say Gian Russo, of East Moriches, was dispatched to an unoccupied disabled vehicle on the side of the road. They say Russo was on the flatbed hooking up the vehicle when a car driven by 72-year-old Betty Lutz, of Coram, hit the disabled vehicle and pinned Russo against the headboard of his truck.
Russo was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 72-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The 39-year-old worked for Premier Towing on the weekends in Mastic Beach for the past 10 years.
