Police: Teen bicyclist hit and killed in Ronkonkoma; Good Samaritan hurt
Officials say a teen died after being struck on his bicycle by two cars in Ronkonkoma Saturday night.
Police say 14-year-old Davon Mention was initially struck by a Jeep on Lakeland Avenue near Union Parkway around 8 p.m.
News 12 was told that Ryan Reilly, a passenger in the vehicle, jumped out to help the biker. That's when police say Reilly was hit by a Nissan Altima, which also struck the bicyclist.
The 20-year-old suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Reilly's father tells News 12 Long Island that his son is being treated for a fractured skull, spine and brain bleed.
The teen bicyclist was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Mention's mother tells News 12 that her son was heading to a nearby trampoline park at the time of the crash.
It is unclear at this time what caused either of the crashes.
No charges have been filed.
