A suspect fleeing police drove off a cliff Monday in Greenport, officials say.
Southold Police Chief Martin Flatley says the suspect, who had a warrant out for his arrest, led police on a chase for over 30 minutes from Peconic to Riverhead and then back out east before going over the cliff on Sound Drive.
"He drove through the guardrail and ended up off the cliff and bounced off the beach and into the Long Island Sound," Flatley says.
He says officers were able to go to the beach get him from the vehicle. They then placed him under arrest.
Flatley says the suspect was "uninjured for the most part."
News 12 is told the vehicle that went over the cliff was a rental car from Florida.
