A 17-year-old student was stabbed outside Uniondale High School Monday afternoon, police say.
The 15-year-old male suspect knocked the victim off a bicycle and began fighting around 3 p.m.
Police say the 17-year-old male was stabbed multiple times in the neck, back and stomach. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
News 12 is told that the 15-year-old suspect tried to get away on a bicycle but was arrested after a brief foot chase.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says the suspect does not attend Uniondale High School and that the attack was not random.
"The response by the police department working with the school district was excellent - exactly as we practiced," Ryder said. "Got that individual to the hospital to save his life. Subject is under arrest and nobody else was hurt."
The superintendent of the school released a statement reading in part, "We are cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation and will take all action determined appropriate with those students involved in this incident."
