A gunman fired shots at a couple walking with a 1-year-old child on Front Street in Hempstead Thursday afternoon, police say.
According to police, a 21-year-old man was walking with his girlfriend and the child when the shooter emerged from between two apartment buildings and opened fire.
Police say the suspect fired three to four shots but did not hit anyone.
This comes about two weeks after a 12-year-old girl was struck and killed by a stray bullet that entered her home in the same community.
During Thursday's incident, police say bullets went into a law office nearby and struck at least one parked car.
The alleged shooter fled into a waiting car, according to authorities.
Police say targeted man has not cooperated with their investigation, which is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
