Police: Selden man drove drunk, caused 3-vehicle crash in Dix Hills
Police say a man was arrested for DWI following a multi-vehicle crash in Dix Hills Monday night.
The crash happened just after 10 p.m. on Deer Park Road near the intersection of East Deer Park Road.
Police say Thomas Macy, of Selden, slammed into the back of an SUV, which caused the SUV to hit a sedan.
Macy's van then burst into flames. Police say none of the people in the cars were seriously hurt.
In court Tuesday, the judge said Macy's blood alcohol content was 0.18 -- more than double the legal limit.
The van belongs to All Island Mechanical. A Dix Hills fire chief said the van caught fire because of the eqiupment inside used for heating and air conditioning repairs. The owner of the company says Macy was not on a service call at the time of the crash.
Macy was released Tuesday after his arraignment on a DWI charge. He did not have to post bail.
Macy is charged with driving while intoxicated.
