Police are searching for an "armed and dangerous" suspect wanted in the stabbing death of a deacon who ran a program for homeless men in Roosevelt.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday inside Anthony House, a transitional residence for homeless men on East Roosevelt Avenue.
The victim has been identified as Deacon Patrick Logsdon, 70. Police say Logsdon was the program manager of Anthony House, which is run by St. Vincent dePaul of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
Detectives are asking for the public's assistance in locating the suspect, identified as Andre Patton, 47, of 38 E. Roosevelt Ave.
Patton is African-American, 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. He’s bald and has brown eyes.
They are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 911.
“We're going to work as fast as we can to close this out and make the arrest,” said Acting Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
Authorities say Patton should not be confronted.
