An East Meadow teen is being charged as an adult for allegedly making a false report to police about a man with a gun at a park.
Police say Andrew Denton called 911 Monday and falsely reported that there was a man with a rifle walking through Brady Park in Massapequa.
The Bureau of Special Operations and Nassau's aviation unit were quickly dispatched, but they found nothing after 45 minutes.
Denton was arrested Tuesday night at his home. Police believe he was part of a national trend called "swatting," which aims to garner a huge police presence over a fake hostage situation or potential violent situation.
At the time of his arrest, police say the 17-year-old had a pocket knife in his possession. He was charged with criminal weapon possession and falsely reporting an incident.
Denton is due back in court on April 15.
