Police are still searching for two suspects in an alleged hate crime at a temple in Melville.

It happened back in September, and now police are releasing video of those believed to be responsible.

The surveillance video shows two suspects that police say vandalized the BAPS Temple on Deshon Drive in Melville.

Police say it happened between midnight and 12:30 am on Sept. 16.

"Anybody who does this to any religious place, doesn't matter which religion you are, it's not the right thing to do," said Sunder Lund, of Lindenhurst.

News 12 is told they spray-painted threatening, anti-Hindu messages on the sign and pavement at the temple's entrance. Police say a third suspect waited in a dark-colored pickup truck.

Members of the temple ask anyone with information about that night to tell police.

"Hatred is not the answer. We all need to coexist. We need live with each other identify, each other's differences and make the world a better place," said Apoorva Kharti, a volunteer and member of the temple.

Kharti says he's been a member and volunteer of the temple since its inauguration in 2016. He hopes acts of vandalism can be prevented in the future through understanding and positivity.

"It's a very despicable act and we condemn that, but we do pray for the sanctification of their hearts. We pray God that they be free of any hatred that they have," said Kharti.

Police say a cash reward is being offered for info leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-220-TIPS.
