Two Suffolk auto body shop owners were busted Friday for allegedly scamming customers through illegal repair practices.
Police say they received a tip from someone in the insurance industry and then nabbed the two shops in a sting operation. The owners are accused of further damaging vehicles brought in for bodywork in order to receive a larger insurance payout. Police say the vehicles where usually high-end cars.
The owners of Countywide Collision in Islip and Bogart Auto Body in Bay Shore are charged with grand larceny and insurance fraud. The owner of one shop, Brian Bogart, refutes the charges.
