A Port Jefferson man was badly wounded during a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July.
Suffolk County police say the incident happened around 10 p.m. at a family gathering on Robert Court.
They say the man was trying to light a mortar-style firework when he device exploded in his face.
The 29-year-old victim suffered damage to one of his eyes.
He was taken to the hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition.
