Suffolk County police say that a man who barricaded inside an East Farmingdale home has been taken into custody.
According to police, the incident happened started around 11:30 a.m. on Walnut Avenue East. The suspect was taken into police custody at around 3:40 p.m.
Officials had closed streets for about a block in both directions of the home.
Negotiators used a bullhorn to communicate with the man until he was brought out of the house and taken into custody.
A neighbor who lives about a block away says her best friend was in the neighboring house as the situation unfolded.
"She just told me the police came and told them to stay inside and not to leave the house," says Lisa Goodenough, of East Farmingdale. "There was some police activity in the backyard. They were nervous but they were just staying put and following what they told them to do."
It is not clear why the suspect was barricaded inside the home and his name has not been released by police.
It is also not known if any shots were fired or if any hostages had been taken.
Police say nobody was hurt in the incident.
