A 20-year-old man is accused of stealing from four unlocked cars in Stony Brook.

Police say Paul Lewis, 20, spent his Thanksgiving morning stealing from cars in the Stony Brook neighborhood where he was spending the holiday.

Ron, who didn't want to give his last name, tells News 12 Long Island that Lewis, a close friend of his son, spent Wednesday night at their Barker Street home. Investigators say he stole from at least four unlocked cars between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

Residents say it's common to leave cars unlocked in the neighborhood. One neighbor watched the whole incident and called police.

Police quickly tracked Lewis to the house where he was staying. Ron says he and his wife then turned over the stolen items that Lewis brought to their home.
