A police officer was injured Tuesday evening while attempting to stop five suspected shoplifters at a Valley Stream Target, officials say.
Police say it happened at the business on West Sunrise Highway at around 10:55 p.m. when officers observed three male suspects. One of the three suspects became violent and combative while resisting arrest.
An officer was injured in the process and was taken to a hospital for assessment and treatment.
The two other subjects fled on foot but were located shortly after and placed under arrest without incident.
Detectives say the men were also responsible for a previous larceny at a Target in Westbury.
They also say the two cars the men were driving were stolen.
