Police say an Oakdale nurse stole credit cards from a patient's wallet and then was found with drugs in her possession when she was arrested.
Renee Caporale , 39, allegedly stole from a patient at Plainview Hospital on Thursday. Investigators say she went into the victim's hospital room closet, stole credit cards from his wallet and then used the cards to make purchases for herself.
Police say the patient received fraud alerts from his credit card companies, and his family members then alerted the hospital. Investigators say Caporale was also seen on surveillance video.
As she was taken into custody at the hospital, police say Caporale was found with cocaine, oxycodone and suboxone in her possession.
A spokesperson for Northwell Health told News 12 that Caporale has since been suspended and they are cooperating with police.
Caporale declined to speak to reporters in court, where she was charged with two counts of grand larceny and possession of a controlled substance.
She pleaded not guilty and was released without bail.
