Some Long Islanders and authorities are calling for more police at state parks a day after a violent brawl broke out at Robert Moses State Park.
"We're three days into the summer season, and already we have our first victim of violence," says Sgt. Manny Vilar, of the state Police Benevolent Association.
Officers say that the Memorial Day brawl was between two groups of young drunken people, and a 15-year-old was arrested for allegedly breaking a beer bottle over a 19-year-old's head. The 19-year-old received stitches.
Police unions say only eight officers were on duty, even though approximately 32,000 people were at the beach.
