Police say that no charges have been filed against the man who surrendered his pet alligator to authorities.

Animal welfare crews rescued a 2-foot alligator from a home in Miller Place.

Officials say the owner did the right thing by turning it over instead of setting it loose.

The gator is being sent to a licensed reptile facility, according to the SPCA.

Nineteen alligators have been found or abandoned on Long Island in the past year.
