A New Jersey mother and a boy were arrested Wednesday for an attempted grand larceny in Hewlett, police say.
Officers responded to a home on Seawane Road for an attempted stolen vehicle.
Detectives say an underage boy tried to steal a running car at around 6:30 a.m. but jumped in a white Hyundai when the owner ran outside.
They say the vehicle was driven by 19-year-old Melissa Maldonado.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle and arrest Maldonado and the boy.
Maldonado’s 11-month-old son was in the back seat of the vehicle, according to officials. They say the infant was uninjured and released to a family member.
Maldonado was charged with attempted grand larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. She is set to be arraigned Thursday in Hempstead. The juvenile is charged with attempted grand larceny.
