Nassau County police say car thefts are down 43% since the same time in 2022.
They say the drop is likely attributed to stepped up patrols in areas of concern and a public awareness campaign.
Police say drivers should remove all keys, FOBS and valuables from the vehicle to keep their items safe.
They also say to always lock your car, don't leave it running unattended and don't leave the garage door opener inside the vehicle.
