Authorities say an East Meadow family's home was burglarized by two men pretending to be police officers Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives say an 81-year-old was raking leaves outside of his home on Little Whaleneck Road in East Meadow when he and his son were approached by the fake officers around 4:30 p.m.
According to police, two men dressed in uniforms said they needed to check the house for guns, knives or drugs.
After flashing what appeared to be a police badge, the men searched the home, instructing the father and son to gather the family and wait in the bathroom.
After the men left, $3,850 was missing from the home, police say.
The men are described as two white males, both around 40 years old with short dark hair.
Anyone with more information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
