Nassau County police say an 81-year-old man in Massapequa Park was the victim of a phone scam.
They say the victim received a call from an unknown woman claiming to be his daughter. The caller said she had been arrested.
Then an unknown man got on the phone and demanded the victim provide money for his daughter's release.
The 81-year-old left the money in his mailbox, and the suspects came and took off with the money.
Police are urging people to be on alert and to remind vulnerable loved ones about potential scams.
