Police: Man stole car at gunpoint in Wheatley Heights, rammed into police vehicle

According to police, Kwaisi McCorvey pointed a handgun at the driver and told her to get out of the vehicle on Main Avenue Tuesday night.

Police say they have arrested a man after he stole a car in Wheatley Heights at gunpoint and then rammed the car into the side of a marked police vehicle.
According to police, Kwaisi McCorvey approached a 2016 Hyundai Tuscan that had just pulled into a driveway on Main Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
McCorvey then pointed a handgun at the driver and told her to get out of the vehicle, police say.  McCorvey then got in the Hyundai and drove away.
Patrol officers in marked cars located the vehicle 10 minutes later at the intersection of Straight Path and Burr’s Lane in Wyandanch.
Police say officers activated lights and siren and followed the car to North 23rd Street, near Merritt Avenue, where McCorvey rammed the vehicle into the passenger side of the patrol car.
McCorvey continued for approximately three more blocks before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot onto nearby LIRR tracks.
Officers pursued McCorvey on foot, and he was apprehended a short time later.
McCorvey, 21, who is undomiciled, was charged with robbery, criminal use of a firearm, and grand larceny among other charges.
