Police haven't yet ruled out gang violence in the shooting of a man on a bike in North Bay Shore.
Authorities say the body of 21-year-old Niam Isiah Al-Hakeem was found by a passing motorist on Thanksgiving Day at about 5:30 a.m. Suffolk police say they responded to a 911 call at the corner of Manatuck Road and Cedar Drive.
When they arrived, they say they found Al-Hakeem dead of an apparent gunshot wound lying next to his bicycle. His family says robbery does not appear to be a motive because none of his belongings were taken.
The victim is described by his family as an industrious young man with no gang affiliations who steered clear of trouble. They say Al-Hakeem was on his way home from his job loading trucks at UPS when the incident happened.
Neighbors living near the crime scene say homicide investigations have become a common sight along the Brentwood-Bay Shore border.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call homicide investigators at 631-852-6392 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
