A man from Patchogue is under arrest for allegedly driving his car into a house in Medford and then taking off.
Police say 22-year-old Jose Argueta Garcia was speeding when he hit a dirt embankment and flew into the second floor of a home on Bellport Avenue just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Chris Maddox lives there with his parents and siblings, but was at work at the time.
"Honestly I was trying to piece it all together, but I couldn't even understand how a car hit my house," he says. "I'm thinking is everybody OK? A million things going through your head. Not only hit your house, but the second floor of your house."
Maddox says a bed that is now visible from outside due to the damage is in his sister's room, and that she was sleeping at the time of the crash.
"She woke up to that impact, so you can only imagine how traumatizing that is," says Maddox. "She's holding up, she's tough, she's a tough cookie."
Police say Garcia fled the scene after the crash, but ended up being caught a short time later. He was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with injury and property damage.
Meanwhile, Maddox is just feeling grateful this didn't end up being worse.
"Right now, just thanking God that my sister and my family -- everybody's OK," he says.
