A Hempstead man is accused of nearly mowing down police officers.

Police say they spotted Kenneth Matson smoking from a glass pipe Friday night inside of an SUV in Baldwin.

When officers approached, they say Matson took off, hitting the squad car and almost running into the officers.

Investigators say that when they caught up with Matson in Merrick, he fled again, this time hitting several parked cars and some trees.

Matson, 52, was eventually arrested on the Meadowbrook Parkway.
