Police have arrested a man for driving while ability impaired by drugs after a crash that seriously injured another driver in Mount Sinai.
Police say John Barbera was operating a car eastbound on Route 25A when he attempted to turn left onto Echo Avenue and was struck by a car operated by Erik Westerlund around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
Barbera, 18, of Port Jefferson Station, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Barbera's passenger, Kuishon Glover, 18, of Sound Beach, was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
Westerlund, 33, of Deer Park, was arrested and charged with DWAI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was treated for minor injuries.
Detectives say Westerlund pleaded guilty to the same charges in 2009.
