Police say a 911 call about a possible hostage situation in Freeport last night had turned out to be a hoax.
According to authorities, they received a call from a man just before 9:30 p.m. saying he was holding his wife and child hostage in their apartment at 100 Brooklyn Ave.
Police arrived on the scene and evacuated parts of the building, which is located near LIRR tracks. However, when hostage negotiators contacted the alleged suspect, the 36-year-old man claimed he had not called police. Officials say they inspected the apartment and determined that the family was not in any danger.
Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
