Two people were killed in a violent crash in Lynbrook Monday night after police say an intoxicated driver rear-ended their vehicle.
Police say 25-year-old John Aniano, of Lynbrook, was high on drugs and speeding when he slammed his 2004 Mercedes Benz into the rear of a 2005 Toyota. Police say the impact sent the 2005 Toyota careening into the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway, where it hit the driver's side of a second Toyota.
Two people in the 2005 Toyota - John Jones and his common-law wife Sharon Long of Lynbrook - were killed. The driver of the second Toyota is okay.
Aniano faces a slew of charges, including two counts of second-degree manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter, as well as driving while ability impaired.
Police say Aniano appeared to be under the influence of drugs and two bottles of prescription pills were found in his car.
Aniano is hospitalized for leg injuries. Police say he will be arraigned as soon as he's well enough.
