Nassau County police say they have identified the armed suspect that was killed in an attempted pharmacy robbery in Seaford on New Year's Eve.
Police say James McGoey, 43, walked into Charlie's Family Pharmacy on Merrick Road shortly before 2 p.m., demanding cash and oxycontin pills. Shots were fired as he left the store, where he was confronted by off-duty ATF Special Agent John Capano, of Melville, an off-duty New York City police officer and a Nassau County police officer.
Capano was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center, where he later died. McGoey died at the scene.
Capano volunteered for two years in Afghanistan and Iraq. He leaves behind a wife and two teenage children.
