A husband and wife from Medford were killed in a crash with an alleged drunken driver in Ronkonkoma Sunday night.
Police say the couple's truck was hit by an Audi on Ocean Avenue in around 9 p.m.
The Audi driver, 23-year-old Kyle Glinka, of Bohemia, was arrested and taken to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening. He is being charged with DWI.
The couple in the pickup truck was identified as 67-year-old William Kear and his wife, 66-year-old Joanne Kear.
Neighbors and friends of the couple say they're in shock. The Kears were well-liked in the community and frequently entertained their eight grandchildren, News 12 is told.
Witness accounts indicate that Glinka was driving at a high rate of speed before the crash, according to detectives.
No one at Glinka's home wanted to speak to News 12 on Monday about the crash.
Police say they expect to file more charges against Glinka once he is released from the hospital.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, and the investigation is continuing.
