Police say a 54-year-old woman was found murdered in a Middle Island home and her 41-year-old husband has died after suffering stab wounds.
Police were called to the scene on Summersweet Drive around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, after a relative asked police to perform a welfare check on the woman, who has been identified as Fahriye Ugan.
Emergency crews responded, and detected a strong odor of gas coming from the house. According to police, they forced entry into the home and discovered the woman dead.
The man had "severe injuries" to his head and chest, and police say that it appears he stabbed himself. He has been identified as Erdem Gulay.
Police would not comment on whether the husband was a suspect in the woman's homicide.
In 2014, officers were called to the home twice for "verbal disputes" between the husband and wife, according to officials.
The woman's cause of death has not been released, pending autopsy results.
