A Hempstead police officer is recovering today after a homeless man allegedly attacked him with a chunk of concrete.

Police say 26-year-old Oscar Guerra was pestering employees for free food at a McDonald's on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead late last night.

They say the officer escorted Guerra out, and Guerra came back and hit him in the head with the block of concrete.

The officer was taken to the hospital.
