Two men are facing multiple charges after police say a raid on their home unearthed 234 marijuana plants growing in the basement.
Narcotics detectives assisted in the raid on the Grundy Avenue home Thursday night. Police say they confiscated a hydroponics system that was cultivating all of the plants. The system included high-intensity grow lights, water circulation pumps, filters, fans, a plant starter medium, fertilizers and a plant-cloning system, according to police.
In addition, police say they found two pounds of packaged marijuana, a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, steroids and more than 200 hypodermic needles.
Twenty-six-year-old Jason Schaal and 25-year-old William Zuckerman are charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and other charges. Zuckerman was released on $2,000 bail. Schaal, however, was serving life probation for previous drug charges. He was taken to jail and held without bail.
