A Long Island couple and an alleged drug runner, accused of supplying high-grade heroin from central Suffolk County to the East End, are facing upgraded grand jury indictments.

Investigators say 28-year-old Kelly Mullen and 57-year-old Aaron Smith used their Holtsville home to distribute heroin to dealers. According to police, the couple flooded Holbrook, Oakdale, Islip, Central Islip, Ronkonkoma, Shirley and Riverhead with the drug they called High Octane.

Police say a 32-year-old Miguel Vincente, of Brooklyn, acted as a drug runner for the couple, and would mule the already-cut heroin to their home.

According to police, a search of the house turned up tens of thousands of packets of heroin, crack cocaine and $37,000 in cash.

News 12 Long Island has learned that at any given time, five to 10 children lived at the home.

Officials say the arrests took place after undercover detectives made heroin buys on the street, and surveillance and wiretaps were installed. District Attorney Thomas Spota believes the gang was operating for more than a year, and may have sold up thousands of bags of heroin, with a street value of nearly $4 million.

The couple, their accused supplier and 11 others were arraigned in Riverhead Wednesday. All of the defendants pleaded not guilty. Mullen and Smith are being held on $1 million cash bail. Vicente is being held on $3 million.

Mullen and Smith are facing drug trafficking penalties and up to 25 years to life in prison.
