A Hempstead High School teacher is facing grand larceny charges over accusations that she used the school district to buy and sell computers. 

Police say Theresa Cucina used the district to buy the items, then repackaged them and shipped them out of John F. Kennedy International Airport. They say Cucina placed three separate orders totaling $140,000 between June and August.

"There's more than enough evidence of involvement and of actual payments being made and her sending computers which were addressed to Hempstead Public Schools," says Superintendent Shimon Waronker. "We're making sure we have a brighter tomorrow for our children…The money needs to start going to the kids. It can't go to people's pocketbooks." 

The district superintendent told reporters that Cucina told him she was being scammed, though he refused to elaborate on the details. 

Cucina has worked in the school for five years.
