It happened around 11 a.m. Friday in Garden City Park.
Police say 29-year-old Jonathon Brooks assaulted a female victim, who is recovering from multiple gashes and injuries.
Officers say they attempted to talk to Brooks who refused to comply and started to fight them.
Two officers were injured in the altercation.
Brooks was set to be arraigned in Hempstead.
