An 83-year-old East Farmingdale woman was the victim of a distracted burglary at her home last week.
Angela Treamer says she was home alone on Wednesday when she heard a knock on her door. She says a man told her he was her new neighbor, and that he wanted to trim the trees in her backyard.
After luring her to the backyard, Treamer says he called a female accomplice who joined them and kept her distracted. She says the woman took her hand and said she looked like her grandmother.
As Treamer sat outside talking to the woman, the man was rummaging through her bedroom. He eventually found a jewelry chest in her closet and took thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, including her mother's wedding ring.
"They got me in a vulnerable place and I don't want any other older people my age to be caught like that," Treamer told News 12.
The suspects are described as a man and woman of Middle Eastern decent, wearing black and gray clothing and big gold jewelry.
