Authorities are searching for a driver who fled after leading police on a chase in Rocky Point and crashing into the woods.
Police say an officer pulled over a man in a Suburban at Route 25A and Patchogue Drive on suspicion of driving while impaired. The officer then discovered the man had a suspended license, according to police.
"This is a situation where someone fled from a traffic stop because he didn't want to get arrested," says Police Commissioner Tim Sini.

The man drove off and led police on a short chase before authorities say they called it off for public safety reasons. Police found the car flipped over in the woods near Rolling Road.
The driver still hasn't been found despite an extensive search that included K-9s and a helicopter.

Police say they're no longer searching the area but know who they're looking for because they ran the license plate of the SUV.
