Police say a driver is charged with manslaughter following a fatal DWI crash on the Long Island Expressway.
The incident closed the eastbound lanes of the LIE between exits 40 and 42 in Nassau County during the morning rush.
Police say a car struck the median on the expressway, and the driver pulled over to the HOV lane to try to fix his car. At that point, police say an SUV came by, hit the car and pushed the man into the middle of the LIE. A third car came by a short time later and hit the man, dragging him for at least a half-mile down the LIE and killing him, according to police.
Officials say the driver of the SUV, 34-year-old Bonifacio Enriquez, was taken into custody. Enriquez is charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
The driver of the second vehicle is not facing any charges.
The LIE has since reopened.
