Officers were hitting the streets on Halloween to make sure sexual predators stay away from trick-or-treaters.
Officers with the state Department of Corrections visited the homes of convicted sex offenders to make sure they comply with special Halloween restrictions through the "Operation Halloween" program.
Officials say offenders are not allowed to leave their homes until 6 a.m. Tuesday, and they can't give out candy, open their doors to trick-or-treaters or wear costumes.
They are also prohibited from decorating for Halloween, which might make their homes appear inviting to children.
News 12 followed along as a team of parole officers checked on registered sex offenders in Coram. One offender found to be in compliance had put up signs stating, "No trick-or-treating, sorry no candy."
In addition to enforcing Halloween rules, the officers were also checking for other possible parole violations, like using the internet or abusing drugs.
